Pastoral Care and Counseling Training Program
(SDPCCTP) is an organization designed to empower ministers and laypersons through counseling training. It seeks to help people called to counsel move towards national certification, accreditation, licensure and degrees in the field of Christian and Pastoral Counseling. _____________________________________________________________ The church has not traditionally addressed mental health issues. Some believe that spiritual issues are and must remain separate and distinct from psychotherapy. In fact, the psychosis of the urban community is reflective of its spiritual bankruptcy. Only Christ-centered intervention can meet those needs.
A canon of literature exists that documents and ranks pastoral counseling alongside other forms of psychotherapy. Increasingly, pastoral counselors are being grounded in theory, technique and practicum. Licensed and degreed, ministers are servicing congregation and community as professional pastoral counselors.
Pastoral counseling allows God and Christian values to be brought into the counseling session. Unlike secular counseling, its allows problems to be addressed from a spiritual perspective and lays at the client’s doorway the wealth of resources, knowledge and understanding the Creator of Universe’s unconditional love and awesome hand to help work through any situation. In the form of pastoral counselor, the gospel arrives haling, “You can get-up, stand-up, stay-up and go on, forgiven, in liberty and free.”
