Pastoral Care and Counseling Training Program

(SDPCCTP) is an organization designed to empower ministers and laypersons through counseling training. It seeks to help people called to counsel move towards national certification, accreditation, licensure and degrees in the field of Christian and Pastoral Counseling.

The church has not traditionally addressed mental health issues. Some believe that spiritual issues are and must remain separate and distinct from psychotherapy. In fact, the psychosis of the urban community is reflective of its spiritual bankruptcy. Only Christ-centered intervention can meet those needs.

A canon of literature exists that documents and ranks pastoral counseling alongside other forms of psychotherapy. Increasingly, pastoral counselors are being grounded in theory, technique and practicum. Licensed and degreed, ministers are servicing congregation and community as professional pastoral counselors. Pastoral counseling allows God and Christian values to be brought into the counseling session. Unlike secular counseling, its allows problems to be addressed from a spiritual perspective and lays at the client’s doorway the wealth of resources, knowledge and understanding the Creator of Universe’s unconditional love and awesome hand to help work through any situation. In the form of pastoral counselor, the gospel arrives haling, “You can get-up, stand-up, stay-up and go on, forgiven, in liberty and free.”

Sweet Deliverance Pastoral Care and Counseling Training Program is an academic training and counseling entity designed to help hurting people help themselves through providing Pastoral Care and Counseling training and services. It was created because there is a lack of trained and credentialed pastoral care counselors within the Christian church and community based organizations. Sweet Deliverance provides training in the field of pastoral and Christian counseling to ministers and laypersons wanting to be trained and licensed as they move towards accreditation and certification in Christ–centered counseling.

The goal of SDPCCTP is to help produce a well-grounded body of counselors equipped to address and service mental health issues of those in urban based communities who other wise might not seek services. By offering classes and supervision of academic services and monitoring, the program will provide a context in which to learn pastoral counseling.

Mission Statement:
Sweet Deliverance Pastoral Care and Counseling Training Program (SDPCCTP) works to reduce the devastating impact of spiritual decay on the urban community by providing counseling-training services and pastoral care and counseling. SDPCCTP provides spiritual direction designed to facilitate corrective behavior and by doing so, make the world a better place one person at a time.

Our Purpose:
Many are anointed but fewer are trained. According to II Timothy 2:15, people should study to sharpen and develop their gifts and skills in any given area. Studying develops expertise, understanding, wisdom, confidence and knowledge. It also provides an opportunity to grasp and communicate developments and trends in the marketing environment of that field of study. In the face of economic budget cuts and loss of social programs, the church and community-based organizations must be ready to help meet people’s needs as they are increasingly turned to for help. Ministries and community-based organizations can use a working knowledge and understanding of Pastoral Care and Counseling to provide counseling services to congregations and communities to help people heal. Spiritual decay is eating away at the heart and psyche of the urban community. Some people are spiritually bankrupt because they do not know and understand the principles afforded them in the Word of God that provide the wisdom, knowledge and understanding needed to live an abundant life. There truly exists a need for ministries and social service type programs to train an army of counselors equipped to serve masses of people right where they live. Sweet Deliverance Pastoral Care and Counseling Training Program is an excellent vehicle to help achieve this goal.
